Impairments, Activity Limitations, and Participation Restrictions

What is disability?

A disability is any condition of the body or mind (impairment) that makes it more difficult for the person with the condition to do certain activities (activity limitation) and interact with the world around them (participation restrictions).

World Social Work Day 2017  (WSWD) is on the 21st of March. The theme ‘Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability’ relates to the third pillar of the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development.

The IASSW was informed about the initiative from the business group Excellentia – to organise a Social Work World Summit –, and it expresses its full agreement with the pronouncements sent by the Chilean Association of Schools of Social Work Universities (ACHETSU in Spanish) and the Latin American Association for Education and Research in Social Work (ALAEITS in Spanish) to its members and universities. 

A lack of physical activity is a significant risk factor for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as stroke, diabetes, and cancer. Less and less physical activity is occurring in many countries. Globally, 23% of adults and 81% school-going adolescents are not active enough.
