UN Praises Iran's Humane Treatment of Afghan Refugees TEHRAN (FNA)- UN special envoy for Afghanistan Yan Kubis appreciated Iran's effective efforts in support of the Afghan refugees, and underlined that Tehran has shown a kind and humanitarian behavior towards the Afghan nationals. Kubis made the remarks in a meeting with Chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi in Tehran on Wednesday. He appreciated Iran's support for the Afghan people, and said the Iranian government and people have rendered humanitarian aids to the Afghan people and sheltered millions of Afghan refugees. Over one million illegal Afghan refugees currently live in Iran but the Islamic Republic has received little international support. Iran has called on the international community to strengthen support for Iran for hosting Afghan refugees and provide repatriation support for the refugees. Voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees from Iran has slowed in recent years in the face of poor security and economic conditions in Afghanistan, which Tehran blames on the US-led invasion of the country in 2001. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9202243248 |
